Once again we are subjected to the back room deal here in Holbrook. It has come to my attention that a deal has been struck with some well meaning people who are passionate about their issue which is the schools . They have been told that "if you support the trash transfer station and a certain candidate for selectman we will get our gang to support the override." I hope they look long and hard at the pattern that has been in place here for far too long. Each election season we have a candidate who looks good and makes a favorable impression as to how you would like a selectman to appear, but who has no experience, no participation, no understanding of the issues and or the mechanisms that one must use to make town government work for the people at large. The result for us as a town is that one person tells others how to vote and hides in the shadows. isn't it time we got rid of this blight on our democracy? you've seen how well it has worked recently haven't you? if this was a productive process for the town we'd be better off not worse off wouldn't you say? as far as the override is concerned although we may need money for lots of very worthwhile initiatives, in this economy the likelihood of passing this vote is not good.
So this shadow person can promise all he wants he doesn't control the amount of money people have to pay additional taxes. so how can he make good on his promise? he can't . i am purposely not mentioning this candidate's name because he and the school people may very well get up the nerve themselves to tell these people who are attempting to buy their allegiance to get lost and let them run their own campaign and think for themselves. You may say i am naive in thinking like this but the old saying is you can fool some of the people some of the time but you can't fool all the people all the time.

Whats the matter sue, no one is supporting you so ou make statements you can't back up. YOu have no proof because you don't use anyones name. Lies LIes and more lies.
Tigger...For those of us that have been here too long, this is just the same pattern that we've seen from the syndicate in power. Today's Globe had an article about N.H. towns voting down all extra spending requests. It's the old adage that if I have to live on a fixed budget then, so do you. I don't see any other towns that invited HELP to set up business. We have so much to thank the syndicate leader for, don't we? At least we know that we have a clear conscience and think of all the residents and not just the "chosen few".
I am so bothered by people saying a deal has been made with the school people to support an override, so that we have people to support the trash transfer station.I myself think that it make's sense to vote in favor of question 2 so we can have revenue to support the school's

Sue,
I take great offense to this posting. To assume that any kind of deal has been made is absolutely ridiculous, because what you're saying is that people will vote they way they've been told to and don't have a mind of their own to vote for what's right. As to your comment about a candidate who has no experience, etc, people have to start somewhere. The candidate to whom you're referring at least has been a town meeting member and has seen how things operate. I'd like to think, and maybe I'm naive, that people will actually look at the facts on the issues and vote for what's good for the town.
danny you make me laugh i really like you as a person but don't bother with the denials. it is a fact you know it and i know it. the problem with this deal this time is you guys did it with an honest person who innocently spoke up about it. i wish more people would speak up when this is attempted. maybe it would stop.
to anonymous i hope they look at the facts too. whichever side wins in a straightforward election is fine with me. the key is a straightforward honest election based on the issues not back room deals. either you are awfully new to this town or you are pulling our collective legs.
hello anonymous you are wrong i have quite a bit of support thank you. in case you don't know it signs don't vote and because someone agrees to a sign doesn't mean they vote what the sign says. i said the reason why i'm not using the persons name and that is i am hoping they grow some guts and use their own very good mind. it is tempting to accept help but it comes with strings, strings i have never allowed to run me. i like it like that and so do the people who vote for me.
Signs may not vote Sue but they tell me you house is FOR SALE
me house is for sale?? really, i was wondering what that huge sign that's been there for over a year meant.
obviously you haven't read one of the previous posts that talks about that. i hope you always have good luck with your home and the real estate crisis leaves you alone. i also hope that no-one from town hall ever makes a move that affects your life as some have to ours. you see it isn't always just a game that they play up there it actually affects peoples lives.
I would think it refreshing that someone is new to politics and has entered the race only because they can't sit on the sidelines any longer with so much at stake. It would also be smart to consider that experience comes in many ways and is transferable. Supervising 200+ employees and watching over millions of dollars in budgets must not be the experience you find important. I won’t pat myself on the back with thinking that you have a good understanding of the issues, as you seem to be in the minority of what the citizens of Holbrook actually want.
Matt Moore
thank you for using your name matt. it is good to here what some of your qualifications are. i agree it is very good that someone steps up to do what they can to improve things. Anyone who steps up to run does more than all the talkers on the sidelines.
notice i never named you matt. also as far as the minority voice you may be right. in this democracy it is vital that the minority has a voice. when the votes are counted the decision is made. at that time you better have someone there who because of that very opposite position can get the best deal for the town of holbrook. if everyone's in the same camp how do you then switch sides and do what needs to be done for the town?
