where we stand right now 9-27-07

i was informed today that mike yunits was meeting with HELP about the lease for the transfer station.
since i like to get the correct information and hopefully right from the source i called him and asked what exactly was the reason for the meeting today. he informed me that he ( mike) and bill merrigan, and mr falvey's lawyer, and HELP met to discuss the lease and what the town could get from them.
i definitely don't want this transfer station but in all honestly they almost have to have a lease ready so that the town meeting will know what is being offered. as far as i'm concerned there is not enough money in the world to make this acceptable.
i asked what exactly did town meeting vote to allow regarding the lease; i don't remember exactly so if anyone disputes this info feel free, mike says the members voted to allow the selectmen to negotiate the lease. i thought it was more vague than that but he says not. anyway he assured me that the selectmen Could but probably would Not vote to accept whatever they came up with until after town meeting.
i know there are people out there reading this, some of whom are town meeting members and some not. if you are not PLEASE make it a point to talk to the members who represent you and give them your views. not everyone is following this like you are. we are a little slow with our campaign to stop this thing. i really didn't believe they would bother with it. it's such a stupid, backward, nonsensicle (sic) idea so i paid no attention really until recently. make no mistake though HELP stands to make more money that you can imagine. i love it when people and companies make money but not at the expense of the residents. our homes and properties are all we have. we are the ones who will be dealing with the rats, trash , and maggots. not to mention the traffic.i wonder why all the other towns chased these guys out and our ":leaders" are begging them to come here. hhmmmm........?

Town Meeting Articles and Mass Gen Laws

TEAM WORK & COMMON GOALS

hey people guess what ?? a varied and formerly unfamiliar group of people who all want to defeat the trash transfer station got together and within 24 hours filed a petition that will get on town meeting on October 23rd. I love democracy in action ! we are so lucky to live in Holberry RFD and especially the United States. You don't often hear it spoken but i honestly don't know where else you could accomplish this. We the people are telling the elected officials what we want. if we persist and hold them to the letter of the law we will win. that is the way it's supposed to work right??
oh i almost forget it was 2 petitions. i will see if i can attach them for you to read directly. for all you guys who do that easily, congrats (i still struggle) i'm getting better though.
for anyone who can't guess this is Sue Wright. i was never good at keeping secrets and it is too hard to write straight forwardly when trying to hide behind a blog. so i won't name any names of the workers who got the signatures but any of you out there who want to take the credit that is due to you feel free! you should. of course you all know Yvonne Wright she is the first lady of the trash transfer fight. she called me up and said what are you doing? lets go get signatures ! she is going to be 94 on her birthday in october! she walks with a cane; come on if she can get off her duff and make a difference so can you!
any way enjoy this beautiful weather and remember how lucky you are. sometimes some people concentrate on so much negative energy they forget the good things.

THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE? WHO CARES?

Well fellow citizens, this past Selectmen's meeting a petition for town meeting was brought forth by Yvonne and Sue Wright. Over 100 voters signed their petition against the trash transfer station and the Selectmen were very "nice " but obviously were laughing up their sleeves. They discovered Wednesday evening that because of a technicality the question wasn't going on the warrant. As it was printed it could be used for the Spring Election as a non binding resolution. Ya right ! by that time they'd already have a lease signed and it wouldn't matter what the people said.As of this writing new petitions have been drawn up and new assistants have volunteered too. It seems there are many more opponents than proponents on this one. Of course they know this, that's why the stone walling.
I have stuck up for Mike Yunits up till now but he knows how to contact both Sue and Yvonne and he did neither. I suppose they thought if they sent a letter it would arrive too late for the required signatures to be gotten in time to make the warrant. I am surprised at him. I've heard many comments but never saw it for myself until now.

welcome to holbrooks new horizons

this blog is an attempt to get discussions going about some things that are happening now and will be happening in the near and distant future. hopefully we can talk about things in a respectful and informative way. please have patience with the technical aspects of the blog as i am definitely NOT an expert at this. contrary to what some believe although i did try to participate on the other blogs for some reason i was not able to get in. probably my setting on this computer it's just as well i guess.
i will start off by telling you that i am absolutely against the trash transfer station. before they take one more step we need an article at town meeting. as far as i know they were given half hearted permission to explore the possibilities and nothing more. i like bill merrigan and realize he is working for the trash company as their attorney. that is how he supports his family. that having been said, i am not attacking him personally, but i couldn't disagree more with this whole concept. do we need more congestion at the intersection of union and mear rd and centre sts? no matter what you do to trash and how you handle it it is TRASH !! in the summer especially, even before it hits the trucks it stinks! if it came from dumpsters it has been baking in the sun for days before it gets into the trucks. all the new procedures and whatever they say they will do can't change that fact.
even more important than that though, is the idea that holbrook as a town ( that means the people who care about it) must choose which way we will go. we have randolph, and brockton at our doors on one side and braintree, and abington and weymouth on the other.
the other day when driving home from randolph we were struck with the realization that the traffic was crazy and kind of wild comming thru the lights at 139 and 28. as you came down the hill towards the town line things calmed down and lightened up to holbrook's usual level. if you haven't done that recently i suggest you do. then think about how different things will be if we have to navigate around trucks with trash, trains bringing in more trash and trucks leaving after dumpng their smelly mess.
i find it ironic that the same people who are advocating for the trash heap are the same people who worked so hard against old english square. even after they were given a very loud message from town meeting multiple times through nearly unanimous votes in favor of it. i think we need for you the citizens of holbrook to speak plainly and loudly about what you want. leave them no room for doubt PLEASE ! we won't get the chance to get rid of what will be the largest trash transfer station around if you allow it to go forward another step.
i guess the question is will Holbrook be known for the dumping ground for everybody else or will we be heading toward an upscale, beautiful destination for shopping and convenient living and working not only at old english square but in the other developments that will surely follow when they see how great old english turns out. i;m imterested to see what you guys think
