Merry Christmas Everyone !! We are doing something different with the flower shop this year! We are very excited about being able to use the left side of
Farina Bros retail location on Union St ! It has a lot of parking space and great lighting and it is heated and we have free coffee ! A whole new era has begun for us. We have been here at our house since 1983 which has been good while the boys were growing up etc but now with old english square getting started this spring, our flower stand at the alleys is going to be messed up in construction. That sentence is messed up i know but because all this messes up my head too i can't fix it. anyway we have beautiful arrangements for the table. The greens are fresh and the decorations are pretty. the prices start at $20 and go up to $75. We are also showcasing our internet business with our partner cheryl gelzer alexis. come see and sample some of the great things you can have shipped right to your door instead of fighting the crowds at the stores.! We will still be at the alleys for Christmas but since the weather turned out so crazy this year we are very grateful to be in this temporary space to get ready. Stop in, we have some toys for kids to play with and keep busy while you look and decide what you'd like to buy. See You Soon ! Merry Christmas !
We hope this blog will serve as a forum for information and discussion on current events and things that will impact our Town. This is the time for residents to speak up and get involved. We all have a responsibility to do what we can whether that means speaking out here or face to face when the need arises. Remaining silent is as bad as doing the wrong thing. This democracy only works if we work it.

pied piper reports
the business may not want to be named as they are still open until they move. the last thing i'd want is to cost anybody any sales. it is not the fault of the business so they should not suffer for the conditions outside their building and in the town in general .i am not out to cause any problems for anyone but if there is a problem it should be corrected if that is possible. ignoring it will not make it better just worse.the board of health is aware of this and they have determined that the place itself is perfectly ok to be open. the owners of the business are the ones who dont' want the location due to the problem. that is a shame i think.
the streets that i have heard about so far are union st at 3 different areas
south st, bradford st, marion st plymouth st.no franklin st, belcher st

Public Health This Issue Needs Attention
I have learned that we are losing another business to a neighboring town. it is a sad state of affairs to say the least. the reason given for the move was the rats were getting to be too much.! i want to know what the board of health is doing on this issue. i will call them monday so i can get the story directly but it just came to my attention now. i think it is time for everyone who has rats in their neighborhood to let the board of health know about it.nobody wants to admit that there are rats or mice near their homes but the fact is this is a bad year for them. just look in the stores like holbrook hardware and Home depot. they have whole areas for traps and poison etc when i was on the board of selectmen we had reports of them in brookville mostly near the brook i think. a friend of mine who has worked at trash transfer stations told me that they tend to live near streams and brooks etc and if a transfer station is also near water then the rats are in heaven on earth. it is not politically correct to say this but we saw rats around here in the early fall and we never saw them before. we worked with our neighbor to try to catch them in a trap but it didn't work. we didn't know what we would do next and then when we drove into the driveway a couple times we saw a cat sitting near the hole in the fence where we saw the rat before. to this day we haven't seen another one and we have looked for them. i remember the issue of the feral cats and the trouble we had with them, also i do believe that having too many of them is a problem too, but they did serve a purpose. i am sure they are the reason we have no more visible rats. any way if you have a problem with rats in your area write in with the street name and i will give it to the board of health and you won't have to say anything, if you check anonymous i won't know who it is but your street can be documented and at least it can be seen if there is a pattern of some sort which could give a clue as to how to eradicate the problem.

where is our information??
i have been quietly waiting for some new information on the trash transfer station. Where is it?????????????
i have heard that they want to wait until it gets closer to the vote but who does that benefit? not the towns people who will be making the choice of accepting this thing or not. They better not think they can wait and toss out some last minute info that we can't verify and expect us to just believe them and then vote on it under pressure of thinking we need the money. i'm sure that is exactly their strategy. i am hoping the townspeople are smarter than that. maybe since it's Christmas time we should wait patiently until new years. after that though we need to pressure them if they don't come out with it.
do some figuring and see if you came up with the same thing we did. the tipping fees will probably be more than what is currently being charged because it is so much closer than Rochester. so if you figure $95 a ton and they have an upper limit of 1,000 tons a day the gross is $95,000 a day right ? multiply that out but use a calculator that has the ability to go pretty high. at those rates if we get stuck with them we should be getting some incredible perks. they will certainly be able to afford them. ( no matter how much they cry ). personally no matter what they offer or are made to give i don't want them here. but the people will speak so we need to be prepared for any result.
being prepared for any result also means finding other ways of raising the money needed to run this town. RAISING TAXES AND FEES ANY HIGHER IS NOT ACCEPTABLE IN MY BOOK ! we are maxed out. the selectmen have some nerve not meeting every week. it is their job to make this town work. every decision that is made should be made at the table in the public eye on cable. we have a right to that and it is the law and the law exists for a reason. if they were really trying to get us more solvent and not having already decided that the trash was their saviour they would be doing just that meeting every week, bringing ideas and possibilities to the table for discussion. what they say and what they do should match. as far as i can see it doesn't.

the price of freedom
Wow you guys have been busy while i was busy doing other things! i'm glad this space is becoming a forum for reasonable discussion. i don't agree with much of what was put on the other blog either but we have to be careful hampering free speech don't we?? i too was a target in the past so i do know how it feels to have that crap written about me but if given the choice of being uncomfortable and free or safe and chained up i'll take uncomfortable and free.

Let's Make Progress
Let's make progress if we can. i read the comments about the parent group etc, i did go to a couple meetings to try and help with some ideas as i've said here. i guess i didn't realize that i was trying something that wouldn't happen. maybe that is true and maybe it isn't. i don't believe all the people involved are so closed minded. everyone is in such a rush nowadays getting the kids to do the homework, make supper, show up at meetings etc. then i showed them something new. i assumed that was why they didn't seem to get it. they never said no exactly. i just haven't gotten someone to commit. if the person who wrote in thinks that it's not going to happen though regular channels then we can go around them easy enough. we don't need anyone's blessing really, just a willingness to go forward,. as a matter of fact that is what the town needs too. regular people need to step forward and make a difference in whatever area they are interested in. it's easy to weep and moan about things it's something else to roll up your sleeves and dig in. but it does feel good when you see something happen or changes are made. so ...... next time you get the chance to make a difference just do it !! you'll be glad you did.
